Youth of the Month July 2009
The Youth of the Month for July 2009 is Lucy Watt of Cumnock.
Lucy is currently in Year 11 at Molong Central School. Lucy's bright personality and conscientious approach to her studies have seen her gain a number of outstanding achievements both at school and in the local community. Lucy has taken part and continues to be involved in a number of community activities.
Scholastic Achievements
- 2009 - Achievement Award in Biology, Consistent Effort Awards in Ancient History and Mathematics, Improvement Award in Advanced English
- 2008 - Davimac Engineering Award for Photography & Food Technology, Central West Community College Award for Outstanding Work Experience, First in Photography & Digital Imaging, Most Improved in Australian Geography and PD/Health
- 2007 - First in Financial Studies, Work Education and PD/Health, Principal's Certificate of Commendation, Achievement Awards in Australian History and Work Education
Sporting Achievements
- Participated in Rural Cup in a variety of sports
- Represented Molong Central School in CHS hockey, basketball and touch football
- Participated in Tom Kemp Cup hockey team
- Played touch football and hockey for Molong
Community Involvement
- Regular exhibitor in the Cumnock Show
- Assisted with Cumnock Show canteen
- Regular participant in Anzac Day March
- Collector for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
- Assisted with Molong Music and Arts Festival
Leadership Skills & Abilities
- Displayed leadership qualities through her involvement with the Student Representative Council and various sporting teams, both in school and in the local community
- Addressed Cabonne Council to raise awareness of issues young people face in the Cabonne area
Significance of Achievement to the Broader Community
Lucy is a warm and outgoing young lady whose school and community spirit are commendable for someone of her age. Lucy's willingness to be involved in a variety of community and school activities inspires other young people to become active in their local towns.
