The Youth of the Month for September 2009 is Emma Regan of Manildra.

September 2009 Youth of the MonthEmma is a Year 6 student at St Josephs School at Manildra. Emma has taken part and continues to be involved in a number of community activities.

Scholastic Achievements

  • Received over 10 Merits Award
  • Awarded a Principal's Award
  • Competes in the CWA Public Speaking
  • Completed the Premiers Reading Challenge for the last 5 years

Sporting Achievements

  • Senior Girl Champion at Combined Schools Carnival at Manildra
  • Joint 11 years Girl Champion at Southern Region Swimming Carnival
  • Represented Bathurst Diocese in Dubbo for Swimming
  • Attended Catholic Primary School Sports Association Carnival at Homebush
  • Represented Manildra Swimming Club in Small Towns Competition
  • Member of Manildra Netball Under 12 team in weekly Orange Competition
  • Represented St Josephs at Winter Sport Trials in Netball at Bathurst
  • Represented St Josephs at Summer Cricket Trials in Dubbo, being selected to go to Newcastle
  • Selected at trials in Newcastle to compete for Polding at NSW PSSA Cricket - Girls State Carnival at Sutherland in November

Community Involvement

  • Attends Anzac Day Services every year
  • Participates in Australia Day activities in Manildra
  • Helps with Meals-On-Wheels during school holidays
  • Regular Alter Server at St Michaels Church, Manildra
  • Helps at St Vincent de Paul during school holidays

Leadership Skills & Abilities

  • School Leader in 2009
  • Member of the Student Representative Council
  • Participated in Young Leaders Day 2009 in Sydney

Significance of Achievement to the Broader Community

Emma has shown the children of Manildra and surrounding areas that being isolated from larger regional centres does not mean that you are unable to compete at the highest level. Emma is a very honest and loyal person who brings out the best in others and she is a great asset to her town and an inspiration to others.
