Interest is charged on arrears on a daily basis, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993.
The interest rate for the 2022/2023 is 6% pa.
Council is legally bound, and in fairness to all ratepayers, must ensure that it recovers all outstanding debts. Ratepayers who have amounts outstanding and do not make a mutually agreeable arrangement for payment will be subject to recovery action where warranted.
If you are genuinely unable to pay all of your rates the onus is on you to contact Council and enter into a mutually acceptable arrangement for payment. Please do this prior to the due date so that any unnecessary embarrassment and costs can be avoided.
Land categories Under the Local Government Act (1993), Council has categorised ratepayers land as either
- Farmland
- Residential
- Business
- Mining
The category of each ratepayers land is shown on the front of their rate notice.
