The Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize
The Annual Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize has returned for 2023. It is an annual art prize and exhibition that aims to foster a sense of identity, pride and place in Cabonne whilst encouraging and showcasing the high calibre of creative talent in the region.
The Open prize category is open to all artists who currently live or work in the ArtsOutwest region, which includes the Bathurst Region, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan, Lithgow, Mid-Western Region, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin shires.
The school categories are open to people who attend school in the Cabonne LGA.
The winning artwork will be acquired by Cabonne Council and will be part of the Cabonne Council Art and Heritage Collection joining Michael Carroll’s 2020 painting “Gordon’s Garden”, Amanda Holman’s 2021 work “Storms Gathering Over Mount Canobolas”, and Marian Duncan’s 2022 painting “Canola at Boree Cabonne – 2021”.

Terms & Conditions of Entry
All prizes are open to any artist who complies with the Terms & Conditions of Entry. Please read these carefully before submitting your works, as any works that do not comply will not be accepted.
Eligibility
- All prizes are open to any artist who can demonstrate that they currently live, work or attend school in the Cabonne Local Government Area.
- All art works must be original, uncopied work made solely by the artist with work commenced and completed within the last 12 months prior to the 26 May 2023. If the artist has been assisted by technicians, they must be identified.
- All artworks must not have been exhibited or entered into previous competitions, awards or prizes.
Entry Submissions
- Entrants must arrange for delivery of their work during the working hours between Monday, 29 May 2023 – Friday, 2 June 2023. Any cost incurred will be worn by the entrants with no cost to Cabonne Council.
- The work delivered must match the entrant’s application form in all aspects and any alternations will render the work ineligible.
- Entrants must permit Cabonne Council to reproduce biographical information and images of entered works in an exhibition thumb print catalogue and in any promotional material associated with the prize and exhibition for five (5) years from the closing date of entries (26 May 2023). Cabonne Council will attribute the artist as the author of the work wherever the work is reproduced unless it is reasonable otherwise.
- All works entered in the Acquisitive Art Prize must come professionally prepared for hanging and display. (Please refer to the Information for Entrants for the specific guidelines).
- All works must be marked clearly on the verso with the Artist’s full name, title of work, contact number and orientation (demarked by an arrow on the verso) installation instructions may be included if necessary.
- All works will go through a shortlisting process which will be assessed by a Council appointed panel of industry professionals. All entrants will be contacted by email and advised of their outcome. The shortlist will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All shortlisted entries must be displayed for the duration of the exhibition.
- Judge/s of all prizes will have appropriate credentials to make a critical assessment of the entries. The decision of the judging panel is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All artworks must be collected during working days and hours from Thursday, 22 July 2023 – Monday, 24 July 2023. The artist must bring any necessary packing when collecting the work. If the work isn’t collected by the due date, they will be sent to storage at the entrant’s expense.
Acquisitive Art Prize
- The winner of Acquisitive Art Prize will grant Cabonne Council a non-exclusive, perpetual copyright licence to reproduce the work for non-commercial purposes.
- Cabonne Council will acquire the artwork and it will become the property of Cabonne Council.
- Cabonne Council will attribute the artist as the author of the work wherever the work is reproduced unless it is reasonable otherwise.
- The prize-winning entrant agrees to make all reasonable effort to attend the Exhibition evening.
Insurance
- All works will be insured by Cabonne Council during the exhibition. Cabonne Council will not accept any liability for any loss or damage that occurs to the works during drop-off, collection, or in transit.
General
- Cabonne Council reserves the right to refuse to display any entry that does not meet the requirements outlined in the Terms and Conditions of Entry, or any work that it deems unacceptable for exhibition.
- Employees of Cabonne Council, Councillors, and those involved in the administration or judging of the prize are not eligible to enter.
- By completing the entry form and/or paying the entry fee, the entrant agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
- If a dispute arises relating to the administration of the prizes, the parties agree to negotiate to settle the dispute with the assistance of an agreed independent third party.

Information for Entrants
Please read through this information that is relevant to the Prize you wish to enter. It outlines the steps and guidelines that must be met for your application to be approved.
Acquisitive Art Prize
- There is an administration entry fee of $30 including GST per work which is non-refundable. Any application not accompanied by the appropriate entry fee will be ineligible. Payment may be made online through Cabonne Council online payment methods.
- There is a limit of one (1) entry per work, per category
- Applications must be completed in full and submitted before the closing date 26 May 2023.
- Applications can be lodged online at council@cabonne.nsw.gov.au , in writing to Cabonne Council, PO Box 17, Molong NSW 2866 or handed into the Cabonne Council offices at Molong or Cudal.
- The artwork must be a “painting” which is defined as a work painted in a liquid medium and applied to rigid support. Works on paper will be accepted if framed for hanging.
- There is no theme.
- Works must be no larger than 100cm x 100cm and must be able to be lifted by two people.
- Wet artworks will not be accepted.
- Two D rings are to be attached 7.5cm from the top edge please refer to the image for clarity.

Cabonne Art Prize (Secondary School) & Cabonne Art Prize (Primary School)
- There is no administration entry fee for this prize.
- There is a limit of one (1) entry per work, per category
- Applications must be completed in full and submitted before the closing date 26 May 2023.
- Applications can be lodged online at council@cabonne.nsw.gov.au in writing to Cabonne Council, PO Box 17, Molong NSW 2866 or handed into the Cabonne Council offices at Molong or Cudal.
- The artwork can be of any 2D medium excluding photography.
- Works must be no larger than 100cm x 100cm and must be able to be lifted by two people.
- Wet artworks will not be accepted.
- The work must be hangable and protected.
- There is NO theme for Secondary School Prize however there is a theme for the Primary School Prize which is ‘Diversity’.
