The Cabonne Community Visitors Scheme is funded by the Federal Government and offers support to residents living in nursing homes or hostels and who receive very few or no visits from family or friends in the community.
The scheme aims at reducing isolation, improving quality of life and fostering genuine friendship experiences by supplying the resident with a caring visitor.
Visitors are voluntary and commit to visiting the residents at least every two weeks. Currently the scheme has funding from the Federal Government to support eleven visitors in the towns of Canowindra, Molong and Yeoval.
The service offers monthly support meetings for the visitors and information given includes workshops on dementia, quality of life and grief and loss issues. Volunteer Visitors provide friendly meaningful one-on-one contact with the community for a particular resident.
