Water Saving Tips

Cutting back on your water use not only saves water, but also saves energy, money and the environment.

At Home
We use a large amount of water inside the home for washing ourselves, our clothes, brushing our teeth, flushing toilets or cooking. You can reduce water use in your home by making some small changes in behaviour and by exploring a range of modern, high quality water efficient technologies.
Use the Smart WaterMark home water calculator to see where you can save water in the home.

In the Garden
Outdoor water use accounts for 25-30% of the average home's water. Gardens are an area where huge amounts of water are wasted. Examples include leaving sprinkler systems running for unnecessary amounts of time and hosing down pathways instead of sweeping them. It is worth thinking about reducing the amount of water you use on your garden, collecting rainwater for use and recycling greywater. Explore ways to cut down outdoor water use here.

In Business
Water efficient practices can save businesses money and water. There are many opportunities to reduce the water used in businesses across Australia. It may be on the production line, in the office or perhaps the kitchens and bathrooms of your workplace. Find out how you can reduce the water consumption of your business here.

Visit the Smart Water Advice website for tips and tools for saving water outdoors, at home, within your business and more.
