Molong artist Michael Carroll wins Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize

Molong artist Michael Carroll has won the inaugural Cabonne Acquisitive Art prize for his painting "Gordon's Garden".

Mr Carroll receives the major prize of $4,250 with which Cabonne Council purchases the painting to begin a permanent art collection.

The judge Brad Hammond, the Director of the Orange Regional Art Gallery, praised the quality of all the works in the exhibition, but said Mr Carroll's work stood out, particularly for its composition and application of paint.

Mr Hammond awarded a Highly Commended Award to another Molong artist Claire Ryan for her portrait of her daughter Evie. Mr Hammond said the portrait was an outstanding and captivating work.

The winner of the High School section was Claire Neville, from Molong Central School. Samuel Lampe, from Molong Central School, won the Primary School section, with Abigail McLean, from Clergate Public School, receiving a Highly Commended Award.
