Projects

Cabonne Council is currently delivering a range of exciting infrastructure and community projects across the region. These initiatives aim to enhance local facilities, support economic development, and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Below is an overview of the key projects underway.

Major Projects

Peak Hill Rd Upgrade (ROSI)
Cabonne Council is undertaking an upgrade of Peak Hill Road, a project funded under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative. The upgrade will cover the full 16 kilometers of Peak Hill Road within the Cabonne Council area. The project is part of the council's ongoing recovery efforts after floods, with the aim of improving infrastructure and enhancing safety.

February 2026 Update -  Topsoil stripping has now been completed on the first stage of works, covering the final 3 kilometres of the project to the Parkes Shire boundary. Initial subgrade and base preparation is underway. The first base slab for the new culverts on the realignment section has been poured, and formwork for the second culvert is currently in progress.

Potable Water Project - Yeoval and Cumnock

Cabonne Council contractors have completed installing dual check valves at every property in Cumnock and Yeoval as part of the potable water upgrade. An update on the next steps will be provided shortly.

Community Projects

YEOVAL

Yeoval Recreation Ground

New play equipment has now been installed, giving families and young users an early glimpse of the revitalised space. Electrical infrastructure has also been completed at the scoreboard site, preparing the precinct for its next major addition.

Upcoming works include installing the new scoreboard and fitting the remaining park furniture as the project heads into its final stages.

EUGOWRA

Eugowra Sportsground Lighting

Work has commenced on the restoration of lighting at the Eugowra Sportsground, with the project on schedule for completion in April 2026. The contractor is establishing the site this week (wc 9 February 2026), ahead of trenching works set to begin next week. To allow this stage to proceed safely, the sportsground will be temporarily closed.

Next steps include completing a power upgrade while the project team awaits delivery of the new lighting infrastructure.

Refurbishment of Former Eugowra Pre-School Site

Refurbishment works at the former Eugowra Preschool site are progressing well, with the project on track for completion in April 2026. Most internal works are now finished, with contractors currently addressing minor defects. A variation has also been submitted to the funding body seeking approval to complete landscaping and fencing around the building, expanding the project’s final scope.

Upcoming tasks include fitting out the kiosk, installing roof gutters, and finishing the landscaping.

Restoration of Memorial Park, Eugowra

Restoration of Memorial Park in Eugowra is moving forward, with the project scheduled for completion in July 2026.

A Request for Tender for the park’s landscaping works was released on 28 January, with the outcome set to be reported to the March Council meeting.

Next steps include seeking quotes for new playground equipment and an upgraded amenities block as planning for the revitalisation continues.

Restoration of Eugowra Historical Museum & Bushranger Centre

The original scope of works has now been fully completed. A variation has been submitted to the funding body seeking approval to add a new storage shed behind the museum, which would enhance the centre’s capacity to protect and manage its collection.

Next steps include lodging a Development Application for the shed once approval for the project variation is received.

Activation of Eugowra CBD

Planning for the activation of the Eugowra CBD is continuing, with the project scheduled for completion in August 2026.

Council is currently awaiting a second quote for the civil design, the next key step before detailed planning can begin. Once received, a contractor will be engaged, with design work expected to start early in the new year.

Due to several major projects nearing completion elsewhere in the shire, the CBD activation has not been the primary focus in recent months. Council expects to dedicate more resources to the project from April.

Eugowra Showground Power Activation

Progress is underway on the Eugowra Showground activation project, with completion scheduled for April 2026.

Essential Energy approvals have now been secured, clearing the way for construction to begin. The contractor has commenced work on site, marking a key milestone for the project.

The showground will be closed next week as trenching and other groundwork gets underway.

Restoration of Eugowra Pool & Amenities

The Eugowra Pool refurbishment is the first CAP24 project completed, officially opening on 22 November. Works included full amenities upgrade to current standards with disability access, resurfacing of pools, new shade structures, plant room shed, landscaping, and a rainwater tank.

Molong Hockey Field Relocation

Work on the new synthetic hockey facility remains on track for completion in April 2026, with several major components now finished.

The synthetic turf has been installed and sand-filled, and is awaiting certification from Hockey NSW. Fencing around the field is complete, and electrical contractors have begun installing pits and conduits.

Next steps include completing the car park, securing approval to proceed with the revised dugout and amenities design, and installing field lighting.

Activation of Hunter Caldwell Sports Precinct

Upgrades at the Hunter Caldwell fields continue to progress toward the April 2026 completion target.

A new pump and water licence now allow irrigation from Molong Creek, and one of two travelling irrigators has arrived, with the second due this week. The eastern irrigation system has been connected to the new pump, ensuring both fields are now irrigated. Work to replace the old copper log fence with a post‑and‑rail fence begins the week of 2 February.

Next steps include turf laying in late February or early March, weather permitting, and installing a power bollard near the canteen.

Molong Showground Upgrade

This progress is on hold until the wastewater load from the existing and planned new amenities is confirmed.

Street Pots along Bank Street, Molong
Several of the large grey pots along Bank Street, Molong have recently begun to show signs of cracking. An investigation has identified a manufacturing defect affecting all of the original units. The manufacturer has agreed to replace the entire batch. Replacement pots will be stored and installed as required should any additional units begin to fail.

Pillans Park Upgrade

Cabonne Council has completed the Pillans Park upgrade. Final tidy up has commenced, the park is now open to the community.

MANILDRA

Manildra Multipurpose Courts Relocation

The relocation of the Manildra multipurpose courts is progressing well, with the project on track for completion in April 2026.

Asphalt surfacing has now been completed, and fencing works are finished except for the installation of the large gates. A request for quote has also been issued for the concrete footpath that will link the new courts to the Golf Club house.

Upcoming works include rectifying minor asphalt defects, painting and line marking the courts, commencing lighting installation in February, and constructing the connecting footpath.

Construction of a cabin at the Canowindra Caravan Park

Construction of the new cabin at the Canowindra Caravan Park is moving forward, with final preparations underway ahead of installation.

The cabin underwent inspection in the final week of January, with a small number of kitchen‑related defects identified. These are now being rectified by the supplier. A quote has also been requested from Central Tablelands Water to install the required fire hydrants—an essential step before the cabin can be delivered and placed on site.

Next steps include installing the fire hydrants, preparing the site with footings and associated groundwork, and finally delivering the cabin and connecting it to services.

Canowindra CHS & Library Refurbishment

The refurbishment project is nearing completion after construction began in May following an extensive design, approval, and tendering process. Despite some challenges during demolition, works have progressed smoothly, and final painting, fit-off, and touch-ups are underway. Practical completion is expected by the end of 2025.
