Funding Secured for Cabonne Community & Infrastructure Projects

Cabonne Council has been successful in securing funding for a range of community infrastructure projects, a curatorial study, a business case, and roads repair program.
Cabonne Council Mayor Kevin Beatty said Council staff and community groups worked hard to secure the latest round of grants that will boost the wellbeing of our local communities by providing new and upgraded public spaces, community facilities, and forward planning for flood strategy and sustainable energy production.
“Cabonne Council is working with our communities to ensure that Council does its part in providing facilities and services that enable the community to want to live, work, play and stay in their towns and villages,” Cr Beatty said.
Stronger Country Communities
Council was successful in securing $982,595.00 for 3 of its ‘Activating Cabonne’ projects under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, Round 5.
The successful projects were Activating the Cargo Village Green, Activating Montana Park in Manildra, and Activating the Yeoval Recreation Precinct.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is designed to boost the wellbeing of communities in regional areas by providing new or upgraded social and sporting infrastructure, or community programs that have strong local support.
Under the funding guidelines, the projects must ‘be for infrastructure or community programs that boost the wellbeing of regional areas through improved amenity and positive social outcomes.’
Resources for Regions
Council secured $4,480,241.00 for 3 projects from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program, Round 9. The successfully funded projects are also part of Council’s ‘Activate Cabonne’ program.
The successful projects were Activation of Cabonne Swimming Pools, Battery Energy Storage System for Cabonne, and Curatorial Study of the Age of Fishes Museum, Canowindra
The Resources for Regions program aims to ‘provide mining communities with new infrastructure and community projects that support economic and social prosperity.’
Regional NSW - Business Case and Strategy Development Fund
Council was successful in receiving $143,750 under the Regional NSW - Business Case and Strategy Development Fund.
The successful project was the Business Case for a Molong Flood-Free Settlement Strategy.
The Business Case and Strategy Development Fund “supports strategies and initiatives that will strengthen community infrastructure, regional prosperity, and planning for future projects.”
Get NSW Active Transport Program
Council was successful in gaining funding totalling $990,000 under the Get NSW Active Transport for new footpath construction across the Cabonne LGA. Funding will supplement $535,000 from the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program which was approved in May 2022.
Footpath construction driven by Council’s Active Transport Plan was a focal point within the latest round of the Community Strategic Plan consultations.
The breakdown of funding under the Active Transport program is as follows:
- $170,000 to expand the pedestrian facilities in Cargo - Belmore St (Church St to Wall St & Inn to Forbes)
- $150,000 to construct a new footpath in Cudal - Taylor St (Main St to Swinging Bridge)
- $140,000 for a new walking path in Cumnock - McLaughlin St (Obley st to sportsground)
- $130,000 to improve pedestrian access in Canowindra - Tilga St (Flanagan to Ferguson St)
- $110,000 for better footpaths in Manildra - Orange St (Parkes to Moura St)
- $100,000 for a footpath between Bevan Street and Long Point Road, Mullion Creek - Long Point Rd (Bevan Rd towards railway)
- $90,000 for pedestrian improvements at Yeoval - Forbes St (St Columbas to Bridge
- $60,000 for a new footpath at Eugowra - Noble St (Pye to Oberon St)
- $40,000 for better walking options at Molong - Wellington St (Smith St to existing path)
NSW Regional and Local Roads Repair Program
On 3 January 2023, the New South Wales Premier Mr. Dominic Perrottet MP with Deputy Premier Mr. Paul Toole MP and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Mr. Sam Farraway MLC, attended Molong to announce $500M for NSW Councils under the Regional and Local Roads Repair Program.
Cabonne Council has received an allocation under this program of $4.2 million.
The eligible works under this program are maintenance related in an attempt to supplement the increasing costs of damage sustained to regional and local roads over the past two years. Officers are currently developing the works program to deliver on the funding allocation.
