MANDAGERY CREEK BRIDGE A STEP CLOSER

Abergeldie Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender to build a new $12 million concrete bridge over Mandagery Creek at Manildra with construction set to begin this month.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the new bridge on Henry Parkes Way will accommodate higher mass vehicles thanks to wider travel lanes and improved road approaches as well as better access for pedestrians with a footpath on the northern side of the bridge.
“The existing 92-year-old Mandagery Creek Bridge is no longer fit for purpose, and this $12 million investment will provide safer, smoother journeys for motorists travelling across the region,” Mr Farraway said.
“About 2000 vehicles use the existing bridge each day and one-quarter of those are heavy vehicles.
“The higher-mass-limit bridge will provide a welcome boost for freight operators by improving links to the Parkes Special Activation Precinct, and for locals travelling between Orange and Parkes and through the Manildra town centre.”
The new bridge will be built on the same alignment as the old bridge with construction and demolition occurring at the same time.
The inclusion of a footpath supports the NSW Government’s commitment to encouraging people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday travel.
The bridge will be closed for up to 10 weekends during construction, and the community will be advised ahead of the scheduled closures. Traffic will be maintained via a single lane during the staged construction of the new bridge.
Construction begins on 26 September and work on the new bridge is expected to be completed by June 2024, weather permitting.
