Suggestions sought for community drought projects

Published on 15 October 2018

Cabonne residents and local organisations are being asked to suggest community projects that may be funded under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.
Up to $1 million has been made available for community infrastructure and other drought relief initiatives in Cabonne, and Cabonne Council is inviting expressions of interest for suitable projects.
The funding is for projects that will:
•    Provide employment for people whose work opportunities have been impacted by drought;
•    Stimulate local community spending;
•    Use local resources, businesses and suppliers; and
•    Provide a lasting benefit to communities and agricultural industries on which they depend.
Mayor Kevin Beatty said projects such as pest and weed control, community infrastructure upgrades and clearing waterways where local suppliers and labour can be used would be highly regarded, along with initiatives to stimulate the economy in Cabonne’s towns and villages.
Projects must have a value of at least $25,000 and be completed by 30 June 2019.
“The Council plans to consider projects at its November council meeting and submit eligible applications to deliver the best possible outcomes for our area,” Cr Beatty said.
Expressions of interest forms are available on Cabonne Council’s website or from Council’s offices in Molong, Cudal and Canowindra.
Forms must be submitted by Friday 9 November 2018 and can be lodged online, emailed to council@cabonne.nsw.gov.au or mailed to Cabonne Council, PO Box 17, Molong 2866.
